Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants
Dental implants are an amazing restorative dentistry procedure that can replace missing teeth. At Wyse Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Champaign and Bloomington, IL, we perform this procedure to help restore a patient’s oral health, function, and appearance. Let’s discuss some of the most commonly asked questions about dental implants to help you decide if implants may be the right choice for you.
How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?
This depends on several factors, including how many implants you need, if you need preparatory treatment like periodontal care or bone grafting, and the type of restoration you need. For patients missing a single tooth, dental implant treatment starts at $2,100 at our Bloomington dental practice.
Does Insurance Cover Dental Implants?
Insurance typically does not cover the implants, but it may cover other aspects of your treatment such as the restoration. We will verify all dental coverage to maximize your benefits. We also offer CareCredit® to help break any out-of-pocket costs into affordable monthly payments.
What Are Implants Made of?
A dental implant is often made of durable and long-lasting titanium or ceramic. If you have an allergy to metals, please discuss this with your dentist before treatment begins.
What’s the Difference Between Traditional and All-on-4 Implants?
There are a few differences between traditional implants and All-on-4 implants, including:
- Number of Implants Used: All-on-4 uses just four implants to restore a full arch where traditional dental implants require six to eight along an arch.
- Placement: All-on-4 dental implants are placed differently. Two posts are placed at a 45-degree angle to maximize existing jaw bone material. This is a great option for patients with mild-to-moderate bone loss.
What Is Osseointegration?
Osseointegration is the process in which dental implants fuse to the jawbone. This is an important step in the healing process, and it typically takes about three to six months.
Does Implant Placement Hurt?
No. we will thoroughly numb the area before treatment begins. If you need an extra level of comfort care, we can provide sedation to ensure you are completely comfortable during treatment. Some discomfort is to be expected as you heal, but simple things like taking medications, using ice packs, and sticking to a soft diet for a few days to weeks will make the healing process manageable.
How Long Does the Process Take?
This will vary from patient to patient depending on how many implants you need, how quickly you heal, and more. Typically, dental implant treatment takes about three to six months.
How Long Do Implants Last?
Your dental implants are designed to last a lifetime. However, the restoration (dental crown, dental bridge, or denture) will wear over time and will eventually need to be replaced. With proper care and maintenance, your restoration can last for 15 years.
