Dental Bridges Made to Match Your Smile
Dr. David D. Wyse and Dr. Jay W. Chrisman place custom-crafted dental bridges at their Bloomington, IL, dental practice. These restorations replace multiple adjacent teeth, restoring appearance, oral function, and self-confidence. At Wyse Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer traditional bridges made from the latest materials, as well as dental implants, for a permanent, fixed dental bridge. During your personal consultation, we will carefully determine the right type of dental bridge for you, and make sure that your restoration complements your smile and oral health needs.
Is a Dental Bridge Right for Me?
A dental bridge may be recommended if you are missing one to three teeth. If you have a larger gap in your smile, we will typically recommend a partial denture. Since a dental bridge will rest on your adjacent teeth, these teeth must be strong enough to support the restoration. Dr. Wyse or Dr. Chrisman will use advanced digital x-rays and other imaging technology to thoroughly examine your teeth to determine whether you are a candidate for a dental bridge.
Placing a Dental Bridge
If it is decided that a traditional bridge is for you, we will first prepare the surrounding teeth, by trimming and reshaping them. This step ensures that the dental bridge rests securely, and that it has a natural appearance. Typically, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia.
We will take impressions of your teeth using our iTero® digital scanner. These impressions are more accurate than traditional molds, and the imaging process is much faster. Our lab will use the images to create a bridge that attaches firmly to your teeth and that matches the rest of your smile. Once the lab has finished fabricating your bridge, which typically takes about two weeks, you will return to the office and we will attach it to your teeth.
Bridges can provide tremendous benefits, for your appearance, health, and quality of life.
Implant-supported bridges involve more preparatory work. If you select this type of restoration, we will refer you to an oral surgeon for implant surgery. Dr. Wyse and Dr. Chrisman will oversee and coordinate your treatment process. After your implant surgery, your recovery and healing will take four to six months. When the implants and bone have fused together, Dr. Wyse or Dr. Chrisman will attach your bridge to the implant posts. Similar to traditional bridges, your prosthetic will blend with your smile.
