It is a new technology in dentistry that can be used to replace teeth and can be used to secure dentures. I find that implants are most appropriate to replace a single tooth when the adjacent teeth are healthy, vital, and aren't broken down, where those teeth don't need restoration on their own so we can replace that one tooth without compromising any adjacent teeth.
The implant is placed in the bone and then an abutment is made to screw into the implant, and that crown is made to go on top of the abutment, and we end up with a very, very strong beautiful restoration.
Dental implants, at this point in time, they'll last a lifetime. It's just a way of really improving their quality of life and not damaging adjacent teeth. Patients that have implants to replace missing teeth are generally very, very happy. They got something that's very secure and very functional.
